Hi gang!

I have what could be a stupid question, but I will ask it all the same because I've not been able to find a proper answer elsewhere. Feel free to laugh in my face lol.

Is is possible to use another car's Speedo in my own? For example, can I use a digital Speedo from a 500 or a manual/digital one from a 124 in my Punto Mk2? I get that there will be work to do with digital fuel and temp gauges etc but my question is: can it be done?

I get that it's probably not worth it lol but is it possible?

Thanks in advance!

Nothing is impossible....

But it very much depends on you're own abilities or skills and this would require a great deal of knowledge and understanding of the systems involved. You may need to bespoke program something to be able to interface between the two, then you have to trust enough in your work to not end up with a speeding ticket.

Thanks mate. I'd go got relative novice but not afraid of a challenge. I'm not a massive fan of the digital Speedos but I do like the look of the 124 Abarth ones. Temp/fuel/mileage are the only digital bits and the rest are traditional needles.

It's just an idea at the moment so just weighing up with to jump in or not.

Cheers!

This sort of highlights my point, they are all digital, the “traditional needles” are simply stepper motors controlled by the electronics in the dash, from signals sent over the canBus system.

The canbus system on your mk2 is considerably older than the set up in something like the 124, it would be like trying to pair a brand new iPhone with a PC made in the early 2000s while the technology is the same there have been severe improvements in the last 20 years, the differences are vast.
