Hi there just wondering if you can help me, i have got a fiat punto MK2 X reg (2000) When i put the heaters on hot in the car they only blow out cold air all the settings work like blower 1, 2, 3, 4 but its just cold air even when its on hot:bang: Can anyone help? Thanks Joe

Hi mate,

First and most important thing to do is check that you have coolant in the radiator / expansion bottle. If not then you need to re-fill it and then find out where you are loosing coolant.

Next, and probably most likely, is the cable that connect between the heat control knob and the air diverter flap over the heater matrix. To access this you really need to remove the centre console. See HERE. Its common for the cable to become disconnected at one end, and therefore not move the diverter flap. You should feel some resistance on the heat control knob when its turned.

Failing that, then you may have a blocked heater matrix, or your water pump may be knackered, however if this was the case you would also notce the car overheating.

Hope that helps,
Alan

Yeah theres loads of coolant and no leaks. so im gonna take out the consal and see about the wires. Thanks for that mate hopefully its not to bad.

The wires are fineso im taking it is that sensor thing in the engine opens and closes made of wax or sum**** lol

Hi mate,

I didn't mean electrical wires if that's what you checked, there's a cable, like a bike brake cable, that is attached to the heater control nob, when you turn it, it moves a flap that diverts the air either through the heater matrix (warm air) or around it (cold air). These are very common at failing. When you turn the heat control nob, is there any resistance on it, or does it move around easily?

If your thermostat (the "sensor" your refering to) was stuck shut, you would notice the car running hot and then eventually over heating. If its stuck open, it would take a long time to warm up but eventually you would have warm air coming through the vents. I'm taking it you have no warm air at all no matter how long you wait?

Even with a HG thats gone or warped/cracked head, you should get SOME heat through the air vents. And you would also be losing coolant, which you say you aren't.

Hi alan erm when u turn the dial round to hot or cold you can feel its there and u can hear the presure of the air change when u move it hot to cold :S Yes the sensor i said bout i meant (thermostat) Theres no coolant leaking from any were. My fan is coming on all the time and the thermostat on my clocks in the car it all ways runs between half way and three quaters of the way but never goes up in the red allways under........... Joe

Oh forgot ill drive the car like town driving for like an hour and No cold air well i say that wen u first turn it on it u can fill the slitest bit of warmish air for like a second then cold but its not hot its like u feel it a bit warmer than cold then goes cold straight away. radiator is got right amount of coolant so deffently no leaks

The temperature guage should always sit at half way on the punto, never go over unless there is a problem.

I would check coolant levels and bleed the coolant via the guide (in the guides section for the mk1 but its pretty much the same for the mk2)

Then if that fails i would be looking at flushing the cooling system out to ensure there is no blockages,

It could also be the waterpump could be failing. - once the car is warm (middleon temp guage after a 15 min drive) try revving the car pretty high with the heaters on and see if any heat starts to come out through them.
