Hi I am a little confused. I have Punto MK2 1.2 8v (2002). Looking to replace the exhaust as it's blowing near the flexi but when i search for a replacement i see two different types - one straight pipe with back box and one the same as is currently on the car with a center silencer. should the 8v have a silencer in the center? If i fit the straight pipe what will be the result ? the reason i ask is if the previous owns has changed down the line. The car drives well but is a little sluggish on acceleration. Can anyone advise please. Cheers Andy:bang:

Hi i understand that the 8v punto can use the straight pipe . then pipe with the silencer in the middle is for the 16v punto .
when i bought my 1.2 8v 53 punto it had fitted silencer so i spoke to a friend whom fits exhausts for a well know company and thats what he told me , so i took off silencer exhaust and fitted straight one hope this helps

Hi Andy

Did it make any difference to the running of the car? I still need the car to run quietly - not a 'young n' anymore.

Cheers

Andy

a centre section with a box will be quieter than the straight through pipe
only problem is all the cheap exhausts on the market will probably make car louder than oe
depends how much you want to spend really
i pay $23 for my middle sections

Hi s and b
Thanks for the reply. Will stick with the box in the center. Like quieter option. Just confused as to why center box when two different types on offer. I want the car to be right. Sorry off topic but looking to upgrade seats - can you point me in right direction.
Cheers Andy

Hi andy
I had straight thou exhaust fitted with a sportex rear sports exhaust
but cos of supid mot rules i got a advisery to change this i have done fitted a standard box that i bought for £24. free pnp ebay . i find that no diffrence in noise out the back with a standard box fitted ,
i bought a silencer less middle pipe ebay for £28.+ £ delivery

Andy

ps if you fit a silencer middle make sure its fitted spot on or it hits the tunnel :bang:

8v uses a center pipe + back box

16v uses a center box + back box

16v's can use the pipe, but as said = Louder

ps if you fit a silencer middle make sure its fitted spot on or it hits the tunnel :bang:
Yea i gave up with them for that reason, the rubbers have to spot on too, if they are sagging/aged makes it worse

Also ensure the backbox is fitted correctly to it - as i found when 1 slides (not tightened properly) it allows the other to bang the tunnel

Thanks Ziggy/Andy
I am going for the center pipe cheaper and if it does the job with no extra noise + sounds easier to fit.
Cheers Andy :slayer:
