Help, all the other electrics are working except the starter. The problem started after I had bled air out from both the heater and the top of the radiator. A fair amount of water found its way into the engine area.

On restarting the car there was a squeal a bit like a noisy fanbelt and I turned off the engine and that was it. When trying to restat again I turn the key all the dash lights come on but nothing from the starter.

My question is do I go straight out and replace the starter or is it likely to be something simple.

P.S. I have checked all the main fuses and they are ok.

I bit the bullit and bought a starter motor from a scrapyard for £30. Swapped it over and all is now well.(y)

easiest way of testing mate, you got big chucky red wire to starter (this is permanent 12v) and you got a thinner red wire, when turning the key to start the car you should get a 12v at this wire, if not its a wiring fault sumwhere, if you are then its a new starter for you :)

hopes that helps
