Hi im 21 and have had a crash recently...

quotes for the stilo 2.4 20v comin back about 1215 third party fire and theft 1892 fully comp and for the punto hgt exact same price
WITH ADMIRAL (CHEAPEST FOR ME)

Just wondering which to get and why?

Also how does the JTD compare although a little slower? mpg and insurance is a lot better i see. insurance 793 third party/1183 fully comp

also how does the selespeed thing work on the stilo abarth? how does the gear stick work is it a normal one and do you have to back off the accelerator when you change? does it take long to go down to 2nd from 6th say if your cornering? thanks

abarth has high running costs in addition to insurance....tyres, servicing fuel etc.

selespeed varies between owners - i've had no issues with mine, is a phase 2 '54 plate.

car changes itself in auto mode, paddles and / or stick can be usd to change up / down, overriding the system. you can "double click" to get two shifts at once. (or triple etc. car only has 5 speeds).

car will change up from gear to gear if you plant the right foot down.

jtds are more economical and flexible for tuning. don't have selespeed / nice note...

abarth has loads and loads of "big car" kit, doesn't have that "small car fun factor" - all depends what you want from your next car.......

thanks for the info. i want something fast and stylish really

there wasnt too much mpg difference in stilo and hgt you see...

how often do u have it serviced?

to be honest im very newb with cars. all i know is i like them and can drive them but how they work is beyond me at this stage... lol

What about a JTD then. You get both of the above and cheap tax/insurance/economy.

will the jtd be a lot slower than hgt or abarth?
how much would i notice it

i currently drive a 1.2 elx 8v punto so anything will be an improvement.

The standard Stilo JTD is a little (not much) slower than the Abarth. A re-mapped JTD will beat it up to a ton and maybe more. Ignore all the figures, the thrust factor in the JTD wil give you more fun in 1 day than you will have in a week in the Abarth minus the one thing I like about the Abarth, the noise.

personally i would say either punto hgt or stilo mjtd (the 150hp version). Reason for punto hgt is its a small car and alot more nibble than the stilo. Both of the above cars are round the same time 0-62 mid 8's, but the 150hp stilo could be remapped to around 200hp. Again making it much quicker than standard, but also the hgt can be taken to 160hp with a remap and induction and maybe also a exhaust system needed to for that. And then the only really difference between the two is torque and how usable the power is and your own preference between durv and petrol.

although you'll need to do you research on the hgt as quite a few generations of ecu's used in them cant be remap! So be aware... and good luck on the new car hunt.

I can say right now that the JTD is NOOOO were near as fast as a 2.4 abarth, well unless its a knackered Abarth. I think thats just something ppl who own a diesel say to make em selves feel a lil better about havin to drive a diesel. why pay to tune a diesel its still gonna sound like a tractor, I bought my Abarth tuned its 230 hp lets see a diesel beat it :)

Before i get flamed former fiat alfa mechanic here i know what im on with :)

how much would it cost to get the stilo jtd remapped do you think and what would that bring the 0-60 to?

also would that greatly affect my insurance or bring it to about the same as the abarth...

Its not expensive m8, it will do around 9 sec 0-60 I wuld imagine, some say 8 but I aint seen 1 do it in 8 yet. My Abarth had a head port, skim and cams 230 hp on rollin road 0-6 in 7 sec, but the guy paid £1590 for that. so if u want a reasonable quick car that sounds like a tractor buy a JTD, if u want a faster car that turns heads coz of the noise it makes buy an Abarth.

diesels are far more refined engines, petrols are becoming a bit old hat, more bottom end torque which is far greater than any petrol,, a 160-70 bhp jtd will nail an abarth all day, Christ, a mates rover 218vvc brm piddles all over abarth stilo's all day,

dont get me wrong the abarth stilo is a really nice motor, really well kitted out, and sounds gorgeous, but for a 2.4 they dont push what they should,

How did they tune a 170bhp Abarth to 230bhp?

The JTD 'tractor' noise is only noticable at tickover - anything over 1000rpm will sound like a feint hum to a low growl. Making spite of the tickover noise is just a petrol owner trying to justify his double fuel consumption and higher insurance :)

0-60 won't be that great on a re-mapped JTD (i think) but you would really notice the ease of pick-up from say 50-80.

And being a Fiat/Alfa spanner means what exactly?

Having taken a re-mapped JTD around a test track with Abarth's I can assure the op the remapped JTD beats the Abarth. I had the Abarth for a weekend as I really wanted it. It was sold before I could put my money down on it. For no other reason than it was yellow I tried the JTD and even standard the performance between the two was not immediately noticeable. Re-mapped I know where my mony is.

230, how did that come about then, what you do to get an extra 50?

looks like its the jtd for me then...

is there much price dif between the two and how much would remapping cost? thank you for all your help guys

is it the jtd dynamic i should be looking at? 115bhp?.... according to parkers standard 0-60 is 10 secs.

by the way im looking for an 02 model as i've not got amazing amounts to spend...

fully comp on this comes back around £906 (with 500 excess)

thanks for your help.... which jtd should i be looking to purchase? is it the 115 version? im looking for 02 ya see.

I had my '06 Stilo Multijet 150 remapped to roughly 200bhp / 308lb/ft (417Nm)
and I can hand on heart say pretty much any Abarth would have been left behind in a puff of diesel smoke - the torque figures of the remapped MJ speak for themselves.
OK so the clutch was less than pleased with having to with that much power, but I learnt to live with that. Eibach suspension kept the handling in check, but I digress......

My new Bravo (with same engine) is soon to get similar treatment, and i'm sure i'm going to be very pleased with the results. :yum:

How on earth could you have given up on the Stilo with figures like that. Sacrelidge.
