General Punto door lock

My 1998 Fiat Punto sx driver door lock doesn't unlock nor lock. The only way I can unlock and lock my car is by using the passenger door. But the drivers door only unlocks after I have opened and closed the passenger door.
Does anyone no how to fix this problem?

Strip and lubricate, the door lock mechanism that is.

If rallycinq's method does not cure it, look carefully at the lock aperture for damage. It is possible that someone has tried to break in using the old screwdriver technique and failed miserably. If the pins have been damage, that would prevent the lock from turning. New barrels are available from Fiat with a key for a reasonable price, and fitment is a DIY job. You will end up with a different key for that door, but it's much cheaper than a full lock and ECU kit.
