General Punto convertible issues

Hi all so i have a 1994 punto convertible 1.6.
Last summer only drove it about 30 miles and 15 of that was from my work to my house drove ok considering it was stood quite a few years before I got it.
So the weekend I uncovered it put on a new battery and replace the terminals as they were the original lead ones that wouldn't stay on.
It stared straight up no issues apart from the water pump making a noise so I went for a drive around the town I live in but after 5 minutes of driving the injector light came on and when stopping would cut out but it would start back up and the light would stay on but the cutting out stops is there any way of get either flash codes or connecting a obd2?

Also any way of topping up the roof hydraulic fluid as the roof now only goes up and not down and the pump sounds dry when trying to go down

the car stood a few years. Did you clean the tank? Put new fuel in it?

As far as I remember in those genaration of cars (my dad had same / similar gen Cinquecento) the injector light is a general light indicating failures (more of an equivalent of today's 'Check engine'.

The 1996 punto doesn't have an OBD port yet. A 3 pin socket under the bonnet?

Check the downloads section of the forum. I've uploaded some time ago the scans of the eLearn booklet of the x176. You might find indications how to diagnose this ECU.

Re the hydraulic roof side, I had a customers Ford Escort doing similar and the hydraulic pump was in behind a panel in the boot with the reservoir built into the motor. Just make sure you use the correct fluid specification recommended by Fiat.It may just be air in the system due to a long not using, but check for leaks etc. Also only fill to correct level.
There is a UK company Gendan you can find online who sell the leads and MES program that is used by many on Forum, they will be able to advise which leads etc. required.

As stated you need to use blink codes on these old cars or you can I believe use MES with the right 3 pin cable.

The hydraulic pump is in the boot on the right hand side (if stood at the boot) these are a very standard hydraulic pump used for cabrio roofs so they are the same as many other cars just look up on YouTube how to refill the fluid on any cabrio from the same period.

You will need to get mineral oil to refil the system, similar to the stuff used in Rolls Royce and Bentley hydraulic systems from the 80s and 90s. You can get something suitable in halfords I have a bottle in the garage that i will have to dig out and I can give you the details.

You don’t want to get the wrong oil or an incompatible oil because finding replacements for the hydraulic roof rams and pump is nearly impossible now.

I see you are in France. do you have the manual for your car? I believe it has the spec in the manual. you would have to look in your local auto stores for something equivelent, unless you wanted to make a trip to the UK and visit a Halfords store as the bottle I have is an own brand oil.

I think it is basically the same mineral oil they use in Bentleys and Rolls Royce's from the 80s-90s its not something that is so special its hard to come by as those old british cars tend to leak like a sieve and therefore owners are always buying it.

I have the manual, but as you say it tells the oil is a standard one and there’s no specific brand or product.

He's right ^ It's usually something else, like Automatic Transmission Fluid.. the book will tell you.
