Hi, got a new '95 cabrio.

I've tried to connect with IAW scan but without any luck. (connection timeout or ECU can't be recognized).

on my other 75 Punto it works.
any help?

There is another thread somewhere with someone having the same issues. the punto 75 has an IAW ecu, but the 1.6 engine randomly has a general motors ecu so won't work with iaw scan.

Oh I see, it has the same 3 pin plug though.

Does anyone seem to get this to work with a scanning program?

Just to confirm that it is a GM sourced ECU, but was used on a range of contemporary Fiats which used the 1.6 engine. I had an auto electrician look at mine, but his equipment didn't recognise it at first. I think he had success by telling his equipment it was a Tempra. However, I ended up sending it away to be tested and it came back with a clean bill of health.

Another question,
is the ECU inside the center console?
when I touch at the side console plastic, the area is very hot. also underneath the gear gaiter is very hot.

Is that ok? on my other punto 75 I don't get heat in that area.
could it be the ECU or heater matrix? although the heat isn't turned on.

You will find the ECU in front of the centre console. You do not need to remove the console. Remove the driver's footrest, then unclip the carpet on either side and pull it down. The ECU is held down by four bolts, remove the rear two and loosen the front two, then slide the ECU back to release it from the front fixing and remove it from the side. Hope this makes sense.

Hi,
I do not want to take it apart, just to know if normally that area is getting very hot.

And few pictures of the bride :D

Understood! Yes, it will get warm as it is located below the heater matrix, but probably not as warm as in the engine bay on other Punto models. The biggest threat to the ECU is a leak from the matrix. I have placed plastic over mine to protect it should such a leak occur.
