I'm a bit out of touch with the latest Punto goings on as it's a while since I've had one.

I've seen a Mk1 locally that I might buy. It's a 1996 Punto S. It has no history (not a problem as I'd change the belt and service it), an incredibly squeaky front wiper motor, only one blue key and 82,000 on the clock. It's for sale at £495.

Like I say, I'm out of touch with Puntos, so does this seem like a fair price for what looks to be basically a clean enough car that needs a spot of TLC?

seen them with more on, but dunno how much it cost the owners to get um there.
one good thing the head gaskets usaly go at fairly low miles if they are gonna go, so that might be ok :) theres plenty of spares about for them.
i would still knock them down, people expect to haggle so put hight price than they want :)

DON'T BUY A MK1 PUNTO, THEY'RE S***E!

Ok, maybe I'm just bitter 'cos mine failed its MoT today 'cos the whole braking system is pish

But seriously: Mk1's are worth bugger-all these days unless they're a 16v or GT model. e.g. if mine had decent brakes and was standard, I'd be lucky to get £300 for it. It's a 1994 SX with metallic paint and low miles for the year (79000).

Jonny, I'm only after a cheap car for my wife. It should be reliable if maintained, but the mileage is putting me off. I reckon £400 to £450 isn't bad for a 1996 55 S.

That's not a bad price. But I would recommend holding out for an SX (or higher). The S has a severe lack of equipment, it hasn't even got a temperature gauge.

Wanna buy a lovely '94 SX? Its got posh wheels, and just needs a little TLC to the braking system ;) lol

I think you're right, but I've seen lower milage ones for that price. Hope you find something good.

JonnyBoy 55sx go for loads on ebay :)

Hmm... I'm not sure I'm quite p*ssed off enough with it to sell it... YET.

If it gets through the MoT retest then I'll love it again, but for now it's just a rather stylish pain in the arse and the Capri's getting insured soon... ;)

Steve: my repairs are stronger than any Punto floorpan ever was from new! ;)
Unreliable as it may be though, I don't think I could bring myself to part with it. I should've bought a Micra, at least you don't get attached to those soulless little boxes!
