Someone I know has a punto active sport 53 plate 16v for sale. He's asking for £1700 which I think is a good deal as its only got 39000 miles on the clock and fantastic condition. He's currently fixing it as it was written off cat d, someone hit the bumper and damaged the bar underneath, bumper is absolutely fine but some welding needs doing to the bar. Loved the car when I saw it but a friend said don't go for it as they are known to be unreliable. Having never owned a Fiat before I really don't know but looking on the net, there are mixed reviews. The guy who's selling it has been doing up cars all his life and lives next door to my boyfriend so not going to sell me a dud! however I am still a bit weary. Can anyone give me some honest advice and if you think its a good deal or not.

whats the service history like? they are reliable cars if they are looked after properly.

parts are cheap and if you can DIY things then you save a small fortune on labour costs.

if you can get pictures of the damage and post them on here people will be able to give you even better advice

they are as reliable as the next car but i wouldnt be paying £1700 for a cat D 53 plate, its no bargain. took me ages to sell a cat D 55 plate repaired active sport with less miles than this one and only got less that 1500 for it over a year ago, so be even less now.
he is no mate he is trying to over charge you by a grand.

welcome to the forum:)

I'm with Dave on this.

£1700 for a category D regardless of mileage is far too much, especially when undamaged cars would sell for that or less. These little cars are dropping off in price now so there are some real bargains about

Thanks for all the advice, really appreciate it :) decided I'm not going to go for it now. Going to look around for something else
