hello!
My punto 8v from 2001 has a little trepidation when in iddle (with cold or hot engine) that didn have in the past (neither my 08 panda has). The car had a big service (cambelt belt, temperature sensor, shock absorvers, cooling fan, well, i take a very good care of it!) but i never changed the sparks cables and i don't know how to do it and if the trepidation can be caused by faulty cables or not, any thoughts ?? ( no warning lights on the dashboard)

trepidation??? Do you mean when the car is at idle the revs go up and down like its going to stall?

if you my mk2b 8v punto suffers from that, i have took off the throttle body and cleaned it, no difference, had spark plugs changed, no difference, and ive lost my job at the min and cant afford some ht leads (thats how skint i am) So i just put up with it. When it goes up n down i just rev it a few times and it stops, hey presto!

my mums mk1 has this. so far i have changed air filter plugs and ht leads cleaned injector, chaned the injector cleaned throttle body....changed distributor etc...im now thinking idle control valve and this cud b on urs too!

The revs are ok about 800rpm when warm but i fell the trepidation like the engine is about to stall but it never turns of and beside that the ca is ok and with 185000km the 60hp little engine is still a little devil.

Change HT leads, clean the throttle body then see how it is.

Try checking the cambelt timing, its usually that.
T.

the cambelt was changed recently and its true that i started to fell this after my mechanic chaged it...how can i see the cambelt timing?

lots of info on here about this.
Loosen cover over cambelt
turn engine until line on sprocket is parallel with ali casting to rear of head.
Using a mirror and light, check thro hole in top of bellhousing to locate pointer and 0 deg line on flywheel. Camshaft and flywheel should line up exactly.
Tony.
nb why not take it back to garage and get him to do it in front of you.
