Hi everybody :)

I'm having a problem with my Punto 1.1 1998, the problem is that engine dies randomly while driving, but also on idle. Electrician has checked all the wires and he thinks they are ok. Spark plugs has been changed a month ago.
When engine dies it can be started immediately, so there is no problem with turning it on again.
Also, when engine dies the battery and oil indicator lights up, like when you put a key on first position.
Sometimes when car is in a speed of about 40kmh or more it doesn't always dies if gas pedal is pressed, so it just lose power for a second and then continue to run normally.
Electrician thinks that it could be crankshaft position sensor, but he is not 100% sure if that is a problem or something else.

Does anyone have any experience with this kind of problem?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi I have just had this exact problem and fixed it today:):)
In the end the car gave up on me in the road and had to be recovered. While I was waiting on the recovery I bought a new fuel pump since it was only 26.10euro.
Anyway new pump and cleaned crank position sensor and I am good as new.
(not sure which was the fix new pump or clean sensor but if it helps you (y))

Good luck and keep us updated

I had similar problems on my non-coded 1994 Punto 55, 1.1 single point injection. After suspecting the petrol pump and replacing that to little effect, I replaced the small 2-wire blue temperature sensor screwed into the aluminium intake manifold, cost 7 euros at a postal spares service, all fixed now, runs as good as it did when new 26 years ago!

Any progress with this problem ?

Hi again, sorry for late replay.

About a week ago i have changed crankshaft sensor, but the problem remained the same.
Also there wasn't any problem with a fuel pump.
Today i have changed cables for spark plugs (ignition cables), and it looks like it's now running fine, after driving a few kilometres there wasn't any engine stalls while driving or in idle.

If the problem shows up again in the next few days i will definitely keep in mind about temperature sensor. Thanks!
