PS3 - cant get online :(

right moved onto a netgear -> netgear -> comp/ps3 now....

how do i access the second router if its usually on the same IP as the main one?
Assign it a high IP number - 192.168.0.254 say - but make sure DHCP doesn't assign that high on the other router.

You need to turn off DHCP on one of the routers though, i.e. the Dell - and treat the Dell as a wireless hub only - then do all port-forwarding through the Netgear.

in my posession i have:

1x Netgear DM111 router, 1 lan cable port, provided by ISP (Vodafone)
1x Netgear DG834G Router, wireless 4 cable ports, provided by ebay
1x Dell Wireless 2350 Router, wireless, 4 cable ports provided by 'rents :)

the only one that can access the internet directly as a router is the DM111 provided by Vodafone, the other two fail on authentication even though my user/password is correct :( Tech support no use as they say i should have bought the correct wireless one from them :(

When i connect the working single port router direct to the PS3 it doesnt work but Direct to the comp it works

So i set about using the dell/ng wireless jobs as hubs rather than routers, which works fine for inet on my main PC but not for the PS3 :(

im seriously contemplating just phoning the ISP and buying their approved 4 channel/wireless router to try and make things simpler, but i dont know if it will or not.

It isn't that hard to set up - you just need to play with DHCP settings, and ensure there is no crossover in the ranges, plus ensure everything is on the same subnet.

well the Vodafone router which *can* connect to the net, has no DHCP setting option, nor port forwarding etc

the Dell one i cant get to the interface yet :(

and the other netgear one, i've added port forwarding for all the ps3 ports, and iirc turned off DHCP to no avail :(

PS3 shouldn't be this hard. Mine just connected and connected when I took it round a mates. Have you been fiddling? ;) lol Is there a restore defaults settings anywhere?

Stu's right, connecting to Xbox Live is easier than filling a car up with petrol

From looking online, there seems to be problems with updated software on some routers.

And, have you got the PS3 running 4.01 or 4.10?

I'll assume 4.01 as you can't access the internet lol

2.01 and 2.10. Wasn't far off.

What I keep finding is problems with the netgear dg834g. What the majority of forums are saying is that this has dodgy firmware and need to find or ring netgear for older version 4.01.19, which has now be taken of the website. So have to go even further back. However, a few days later......BOOM The router just dies and can't even be reset. I'm going to keep looking see if anyone hass tried different routers and still not getting online. Think you should try a wired connection first. Will keep looking!
