Ok after getting my 3rd router, finally the PS3 can aquire a IP address... but now it cant connect to the DNS????? :(

The DNS its using is 192.168.0.1 which is the router should it be using a dif DNS?

other thought i had was to look up a DNS online and try and connect to that instead... anyone got any ideas?

Cheers,
Me :(

DNS can't be 192.168.0.1 - that would be the gateway.

Look at your ISP now, and see what DNS servers it is using - should be within the router stats anyway.

even with the dns servers the same as my comp (which is working away here) it gets its IP addy fine, but then when checking for a inet connection takes a while to think about it before saying "An error occurred during communication with the server. This is a DNS error. (80710102)" :(

not a clue

i've got the standard netgear router feeding into a wireless network hub thing, which then has wires to my ps3 and this comp, and no probs with this comps internet just the ps3 :(

latest settings:

IP 192.168.0.3
Subnet Mask 225.225.225.225
Default Router 217.41.220.147
Prim DNS 194.72.9.34
Sec DNS 194.72.0.114

not sure if the router should be in there at 192.168.0.1 somewhere though

Yeah, you will need to point the PS3 towards the gateway I reckon, although it is picking up a LAN IP from somewhere, DHCP from the router!

What is that default router IP?!

Mr. Ghost, hope your well, good luck with wireless stuff i was ready to give up on mine, til stu and others came to my help, stick at it you will be fine. Mine still disconnects but come to the conclusion its the ISP not me :p have you sorted the settings on the PS3 to connect to the router? try www.portforward.com see if that can help you

So have you bridged your modem? Looks like it.

All in one modem/routers for ADSL are so much easier - anyway, these ports need confirmed as being forwarded I believe:

TCP:
  • 80
  • 443
  • 5223
UDP:
  • 3478
  • 3479
  • 3658 should also be opened for voice chat.
I take it UPnP is off?

Well, if you have access to the router set up on your computer you may want to try a few things:

1. make a custom IP address for the PS3 under the DHCP settings and put that IP address into your PS3's network connection

2. Find what the router says are the DNS addresses and enter those in manually in your connection settings on the PS3

3. Go into the Port Forwarding of the router and open the following ports:

* TCP Ports: 80, 443, 5223, and 10070 - 10080
* UDP Ports: 3478, 3479, 3658, 10070, and 50100

Ok, only problem is my Netgear router doesnt have any port forwarding facilities... maybe i need to set them up on the Dell?

So the netgear is a router - then remove the Dell from the equation, double NAT is a pain, but can be sorted.

What device is doing the port-forwarding and DHCP? The Dell?

netgear does support port forwarding but they call it 'application gateways' IIRC.

on the subject on getting the PS3 online, yeah its a frigging bitch!

good news in once you get online the software updates seem to be improving things, mine is still booting my pc off each time it connects though.

set the ps3 to just DHCP and find the wireless and enter any security settings you have set.

once you manage to get it online try and get it connected to a media server, thats worse! lol

good luck (y)

P.S dont keep using the 'test network settings' just leave it to do its thing for awhile and see how it gets on
