i have a fiat bravo 1.8 hlx 16v
my problem is it as lost power it feels very sluggeish
i have done a ecu cheak found nothing. engine as also been diaognoised no problems there.

How long ago were the spark plugs and fuel filter changed?
One other thing to check would be the idle control valve (is it clean?).
Other than that try putting in some good fuel from somewhere like esso, shell, bp, etc as supermarket petrol can be poor quality.
Hope that helps

hellow si can you tell me more about the idl control valve how to cheak to see if it needs cleaning and is it easy to do yourself i just cant find whats up with it thanks si

Re: si

faulty idle control valve would not cause loss of power, only very high/low idle revs.

Have you tried a fresh set of spark plugs?

Re: si

Hi Tony, not entirely sure where it's located on the 1.8, i'm sure someone on this forum will be able to tell you, alternatively try a Haynes manual.
They tend to get dirty and give the car a rough idle, i'm not sure this will solve your problem, but might be one to look into.
It'll take you about an hour to get it out give it a good clean and replace it.

Re: Re: si

I've had similar problems , and after numerous visits to fiat dealership , they finally decided to replace the breather pipe and clean out the trap which apparently gets soiled up by oil ( my dad had suggested this about 12 months previously but fiat mechanic said it wouldn't be that).
Since having this last job done i've had no more problems and there has been a noticeable improvement in performance.

Snap

I have a HGT 155 and am also experiencing the same problem. I have had the thing on the diagnostics and have changed the plugs to no avial. To be honest I am starting to lose my patience with the thing. I never had a single problem with my BMW 318is and I am starting to regret going back to Italian cars. I should have learnt my lesson when the tailgate flew off my Alfasud because the hinges rusted off. Oh well never mind. My car feels like it has retarded ignition and then starts to miss at approx 4000rpm. When cold it backfires like a good-un which I always associated with the ignition being to far advanced so I am at a loss and the Dealers are as useful as a chocolate teapot. I am now thinking of ditching the thing and getting a decent German car again.

Timing

Doesn't the timing get adjusted automatically on these cars? I don't think they are fixed like they are on older cars, so the too far advanced/retarded thoughts are probably right.
Not sure what controls it, but it sounds like that is the place to be looking.
