I recently got a semi automatic abarth... already had to change 2 of the starter coils...

this morning... when i drove off... I noticed on automatic mode the gears did not change automatically... I had to manually change the gears... everything works fine when i change the manually but it will just stay on 1 when in automatic mode and go to a high rpm... when im stopping anywhere, the gears will go back down to 1 so its just accelerating...

anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong and what i might be able to do?

cheers

Do a quick search for issues surrounding the brake light switch (y)

It sounds like your brake lights are permenantly on (check it yourself), the car thinks that you're braking and as such, it stops the car from changing up through the gears. There's a guide in the guides section to show you how to change it or reposition it. (y)

Good luck!

hey... so it was the brake light switch... i took it out... and i reset the switch... but now i cant get it back in... it kinda goes in, but comes out when pressure is on the brake... any ideas? should i use pliers to get it back in???

help!!!!

lol
1) As far as i know it can't be reset (it’s a manufacturing fault - have tried 'resetting' it me self n just bought a new 1 - £4.50)
2) IF you can get pliers in there - give it a go :) but it’s easier to just cut (or file) off a little of the top of both catches (on the switch obviously) - this will allow you to turn (lock) it in position (don’t take too much off or it won’t stay locked)
