Hi there have had a 1.2 80sx V reg brava for some years now, cylinder head went twice and repaired etc (by a nice friend), however am now looking for at a X reg HGT.

Problem is that i went to see the HGT on Sunday and it was hot but sitting idle it was a notch above the halfway mark on the temperature sensor on the dash. Now my Brava never went above halfway until it started to show signs of the gasket etc so am a bit warry prob overly so.

The car is a 2.0 20v Nov00 and has done 65K, it has also been off the road for 5 months as the owner got laid off etc and had 2 cars (genuine i think) Serviced and MOT last october.

So can you tell me if this temp would be normal etc, also anything else i should be looking out for. Cambelt not done yet. And only fault i could find was that the rear wiper wasnt working, it died slowly so i presume the wiper motor. (would a 99 brava's fit as a replacment?)

1 notch over when not moving is fine, no more than 2 notches below when moving.

give it a bang on the top of the dash above the temp needle, mine did this for a little bit, doesnt anymore tho

guage

should not be a problem there. there is a margin fo error, so long as it doesn't climb way to far. a good wat to check if thrmostat is working is to take it for a run with a passenger. start from cold, keep an eye on the temp. The needle should climb higher than the norm then drop back to the running temp. Make a note where it ends up and it should stay at that mark if alls well

re

with the sort of weather we are having and if it was just standing idling for a while i woudl also think it woudl get hot,

i thougth my car was going to overheat the first time i got stuck in traffic in bristol as i only ever do short journeys with no stops apart from the odd occasion! so doesnt get very warm at all!

ive got a 99 hgt and when sitting in traffic it is not unusual for the temp guage to rise (never in the red) but its nothing to worry about.
I would be worried about the cambelt not being done as it could snap the moment you drive it away. If you do buy it make the cambelt the first thing you do!!
And i would also ask to go and start the car when its cold- maybe he has warmed it up because it is quite a common problem for the starter motors to screech when cold.(mine does)If it does, dont worry, it might sound bad but its not a problem, according to powerfiat it just the clutch inside the starter and they can go for another 50k at least.

Thanks going back to see it tonight perhaps tonight i will be more on tha ball.

Not yet need to check the cost of wheel bearings and cluth release bearing. My mate checked the car out for me.

Anyone know if the Red key for factory alarmed bravo's will be able to disable the alarm etc. I'm assuming it would but thought i should check.

Wooohoooo.... Picking it up tomorrow! Will post some pics once i get it.
