Try to unlock on the remote and the car seems to unlock and immediately lock again a couple of seconds later. Looking down afterwards the remote shows a fast flashing red light. Doors and boot shut properly. It only opens on the key or if you can quickly open the door just before it automatically locks itself again.
Is it a dying remote battery?

Any ideas please?

Sounds like the lock button is stuck down or the lock switch on the remote has gone short circuit

It should only flash when a code is being sent, as far as I know

Do you have an extra rubber cover on the remote.

Something like this

If you have you can try removing it

In fact just reading your reply the remote away from the car flashes red on the opening button but the button gives a nice click when pressed. The close button doesn’t do this … no discernible click and looks flattened even dished compared to the bulbous open button.

Fingers crossed a new shell will fix it and it's not the button itself

There cheap

Be careful ordering theres two types

I dig out one of my old posts that identifies them

Back shortly

This type the battery is under a door

I have only seen the second type here in the UK

But on eBay, Amazon, AliExpress both are listed as for the panda, I know I have a useless one here, and found out the hard way

If you try and fit the PCB into the wrong shell it will damage it

2 minute job. Easy, but you have to be gentle

Thanks , replaced the battery with a new 2032. No difference. So it’s like you said, new case or it’s a buggered circuit board. Hope it’s the former. Will open up and try to inspect the circuit board. Any one got links on how to do that without wrecking the board I’m trying to check??
Thanks

Pretty sure there a YouTube video

See if I can dig it out

Unfortunately it means working through quite a few with the side battery

Well found out something new

I didn't realise the rubber membrane pops of the top

Be a good way to test the buttons before ordering any parts
