i have a Grande Punto 06 and a couple of months ago the power steering failed and came up with the warning light and message check power steering, this happened after i came back from holiday and the car had been left stationary for a week. So i put the failure down to this, it then had a service and they did a diagnostic test on the power steering and no error messages were logged so i assumed it was a one off.

Now recently it has started doing this again every so often and usually when i turn the car off and on again the power steering returns back to normal but now it seems i have the leave the car for longer and longer to get the power steering back on.

I have no idea wht is going on it has only recently had a service and would have guessed if there was any problems with it they would have picked it up then.

Has anyone else had a similar problem or knows what i should be doing to fix this??

Thanks:bang:

My guess is that your battery needs replacement, a mate's A-class had same intermittent power steering issue and that was cleared once the battery was replaced. Let's see what other members of the forum suggest...

I have had this - my car is currently at the car doctors. Originally they diagnosed a power steering motor failure, although it's now looking as though there's a chance it may not be this. When going wrong mine was making a loud buzzing noise and was vibrating too. It would also cut in and out too sometimes.

If it is the power steering motor you may wanna brace yourself as it's bloody expensive - but as Mr T says, get it checked out as it could be all sorts. Hopefully something cheap and simple :)
