power problems

hi i have a fiat punto, for afew days now my car seems to be struggling to get power. it wont go above 40mph and struggles to go up hills, then all of a sudden its like i feel a release of the accelerator pedal and it goes fine again. however maybe half an hour later it struggles again and i have to lower gears and it struggles to gain speed. this used to happen very random for short time, now its every day for longer.

I presume it's a diesel..??,
you'll have to have the fault codes read - to get any idea of whats wrong,
where are you based..??,

hi, no its petrol, took it to garage and he said bring down tomorrow to hook up to computer, but now the engine warning light has went off, so not sure if he will find the fault tomorrow.

Hi,
the Cars ECU ( computer) should store all the fault codes,

so it should have a record of the code - however it may prove tricky to trace the actual cause of the fault if it only happens intermittently, :bang:
