i need a power invertor for the car, im finding lots of invertors, but am not sure of the rating that i need - its a normal 240v applicance that i want to run

any links or info appreiciated (y)

What wattage is the device Gaz? See the label on it, if it gives you only a amperage that will do. If none, tell us what the device is.

i think they start from 150w rated, It really depends on what you want to run on it,

150w would be suitable to run a laptop from i beleive but anything like a powerdrill/washing machine/lawnmower would need a higher ratingthan 150w :p

Even a kettle or (not sure this matters to Gaz :D) a hairdrier uses above 300W. Typically a kettle is about 2kw (i think) and a hairdrier is 1.2Kw. It's also important to know what actual item you're using as some simply won't work with the majority of invertors (to do with the sine wave they produce).

yup, some things dont like 'modified' sine waves. Your about right re kettles - but they have heating elements in so what do you expect!

My invertor does 800w continous and 1200w peak, and it says with regards to power consumption - for every 10w output you want, it'll need 1A input. So mine is getting some phat cabling put in.

Not that i use it for anything.. but its there should i need it :)

i was gonna get one from ebay, then checked on the maplin site and came across a few different rating ones, i want it to power a laptop, kettle and fridge  if needed

ooo can you get 12v for the laptop, it will save me loads of hassle

as for the fridge, i been told to get one for the summer and they dont want one of them little farty ones :bang:

i have just brought a 300w one, how do i connect it to the car  - it comes with fag lighter lead and a lead with crocidille clips on, i would like to run it off the 4 way power splitter i got running my amps, it this possible??

i think the invertor might have a fuse or something like that on it, well it says it got a overload protection, so i assume it stops working if something bad happens to it

cheers everyone for the help (y) - just thought do these things run playstations too
