I know it sounds like stupid money to spend but has anyone ever looked into titanium exhaust systems?

I'm considering it as a future option as their is quite a bit of weight to be shaved on the exhaust (almost as bad as us BMX'ers trying to shave weight on out bikes).

Is their anywhere that deals with custom jobs like this, like a powerflow of titanium .

Thanks

Exhaust is slung under the car, so to get better weight distribution you want to add weight to it* :D

I'm sure Brooky had managed to aquire some Ti for exhausts.

*actually not a 100% silly suggestion as many race cars are built under spec weight and then balast is added where its best, ie low down.

Apparently ti dissipates heat alot faster, and gives an improved flow over stainless. Would explain why the jap boys love them so much.

Prices would be stupid I know that much (ever heard of easterns titanium grim reaper BMX frame, god that was expensive but snapped very easily), but it is something I might look into at a future date.

Thanks

Brooky was working on it as he got a load of tubing. iirc it's a sod to bend and weld.

also - you don't want the heat dissapated.. it should be hot so that it flows quickly

My car is already stripped, has been for the last 7 months :D. Weight here an there has been shed too. Bucket seats are on my list of things to do in the very near future.

But titanium exhaust is something that has aroused my curiosity, and I know i'm very stupid for even thinking it. It's one of those things though, I may look into it further or I may drop the idea completely.

Thanks

Heard of akrapovic....they seem to be the hot ticket at the moment.

expensive though, one editor of EVO has one on his GTR 4800 pounds for a 23 Kg saving and a few HP gain.
I guess the saving on a cinq/sei will be even less.

well fair play to you, break the nom and dare to be different and push the boundaries of what people do but if you do find somewhere that will do it make sure you post up with costing and details

I'll make sure I do, I know rough cost would be more than what I have paid for the project so far but I think the longterm benefits of a ti system could be worth all the pain of the end bank balance : d .

Obviously I need to find somewhere first but a road trip abroad could be worth it judging by what I have read on that link.

Missus said she wouldn't be too impressed with me paying that much for an exhaust system : d

Thanks

Renault Megane R26.R was offered with an optional titanium exhaust from Renault at some £2300 iirc it saved about 10kgs and I think also liberated some extra power. It was the most amazing blue colour.

I know this company http://www.rsfabrications.com/ in Bambury make titanium exhausts but they are very expensive, I think they did 1 for a Clio V6 & was a work of art.

Not far from me either, may give them a ring in the morn and see what kind of prices and specs they can offer.

Push comes to shove i'll take chalky over for them to have a ganda :D.

Thanks
