Tuning Possible ecu tune

Hi all,

I have a 2002 mk2 with the 8v engine. I’m currently waiting on a pipercross induction kit and a Hoffman catback exhaust system. The plan for them Is not to increase power as you get very little gains with such a small engine, it’s purely for the sound and look. My question is should I get the car remapped after I install them not for power but just to correct the ecu so the engine is happy and running well or would it be a waste. I just want to make sure the engine and ecu are happy. Thanks lads.

No need, just reset the ecu with multiecuscan

you're not changing much. An exhaust and an air filter will not require a remap and the car would easily be able to adjust itself to manage the marginally increased airflow.

Installed the piper cross today and surprisingly the throttle response have slightly improved. I wasn’t expecting any gains what so ever.

Andy do you reckon there would be any gains to be had with a ecu tune, with the addition of the intake and exhaust

Obviously with a remap you would gain a few horse power, but the cost versus the gains might make it not worth while.

There is a website Celtic tuning that has a system that will tell you what you can expect to gain it’s worth checking out.

These cars have fairly low BHP to begin with and you can throw a lot of money at them and still have less horses than a similarly aged standard Ford Focus.

FWIW, Celtic charge ~£350 for their 'stage 1' remaps.

Yep, it would've been just about worth it for my MiTo (+30 bhp, +39ft/lb) if I was planning to keep it, which when I got the quote I was, but since I've moved I don't need a dirty diesel anymore so I'll be looking to sell soon instead

That’s exactly my point, if you start with 70hp and you spend £100s to get a 10% increase you’re still only driving a 77hp car.

Buy a 200hp car and the 10% increase may make more sense. Realistically though the bigger the engine the more of an increase you’ll get.

My 150hp golf diesel for example would make 200hp with the same type and cost of work you would do on a Punto to gain 6-7hp
