popping

i bought a new head unit er see my tuneless threatd - https://www.fiatforum.com/showthread.php?t=14253, i have a sony 250 amp and 6x9 jbl speakers - i have had to unplug the speakers and the amp coz the 6x9's keep popping even when the volume is low - it used to do that when the volume was high on the other head unit - er any ideas guys where this is happening.

it sounds like interference or the wires arent in properly, or u have knackered your speakers up

is the amp on the back of the seat? if so is the earth cable connected to a bolt off the chair? if this is the case then move the earth cable to another point in the boot making sure it's not another seat bolt you could even just fit a new one and that should solve ur problem

Make sure ur power cables and speaker cables run through ur car sperately i belive that if there together that can cause interferance!

Good advice above so far.

Other things to check for:

Does it happen all the time or just when the engine is running? If the rectifier volts are a bit high you could be breaking down a power cap.

Do you have the same amp? It could be a problem with that. Popping is quite ofen caused by faulty capacitors.

popping also occurs wen u have a bad earthing point on your amp mate give that a try

i had the same problem with my sub, the problem for me i found out that the low pass filter on the amp wasnt working properly and so i had to get a new one. what are you running the 6x9's on LPF,HPF or full?
