hmm but if the pump was failing, the ECU would not pick it up.. theres no sensor on the marelli ECUs of that age dont have fuel pressure sensors.

i agree that it could be a failing crank sensor also...

Probably good point on the pump thinking about it, and i would also expect it to not recover if it was the pump, it really points to an intermittent sensor and the crank sensors have been known to start showing issues when the car gets hot when they start to go.

When I replaced the fuel filter I purged the petrol through and put my finger on the end of the pipe. It had loads of pressure.
Odd thing though on reading 40 pages of the Cinq forum is pressure build up to the petrol tank from the carbon canister mechanism.
On filling up and doing 20 miles and then removing the petrol cap fuel came flooding out of the filler pipe.
Weird or what especially as I have been told there should be no pressure at all in the patrol tank.

I'd say your tank breather is blocked.

My tank builds up a tiny bit of pressure, but only so much that it sounds like a small sneeze when you take the cap off.

Mine was much more like a big sigh or long burp.
Another post suggests an alternator overcharging can cause problems.
I reckon a visit to a scrapyard for a crank sensor, MAP sensor may be first options before taking the pump from the petrol tank which apparently can be a real balls ache

it can be but i have recently done one on a cinq (to nab the fuel pump). its all mini nuts. think they are 6mm ones.

im not sure if they take the same crank sensor as a 899 cinq as i have a spare one.. ill compare it with the one on Fallout to see.
i'll bring up a load of spares when/if you want me to come up. ill even bring up some spare coil packs as they may be at fault.. you never know..
we will get to the bottom of it ;)

i have my 3 pin diagnostics cable come through so am good to diagnose the ECU faults.

also theres one other thing i can think of. on the back of the engine theres an earthing point that all the sensors earth to. maybe that could have come away. sadly its more easy to get at that from under the car :/

we will see. if it comes up with loads of sensor faults, bad earths will be the cause.
