So, noticing that the airflow in the cabin was not as high as I'd expect, I ad a look at the pollen filter on my 1.9 mJTD 16V manual Eleganza. Sure enough it was filthy. Even worse the manufacturing date on the filter is 10/05. As my car is an '06 registration, I must assume its the original fit. This is dispite 4 main dealer service stamps in the book. They had been in there as the plastic "push-pin" fasteners had been mangled. I can only assume they had just vacuumed or blown the filter with an airgun and put it back in

. I don't have the invoices or worksheets so don't know if the previous owners were charged for the part or not. Perry's want £45 for one!
I bought new Push-Pins on ebay, item No. 171487583943. Not the cheapest but seem reasonable quality.
I did take Photos so if any one wants I could knock up a guide, but it's pretty simple. Only thing to note is use a small coin to turn thr push pins, not a screwdriver, and don't press down. Basically turning the center pushes it up a ramp so you can grip the head and pull it fully up. The body may rotate, if so hold it gently with pointed pliers or similar.

The original fixings are Quarter Turn, use a screwdriver gently, but they tend to pop out and disappear. They are reusable, but very few seem to know how to use them. When I renewed mine about 3 years ago I think they cost about £10 for a set.

You know my heart sinks every time I hear of miss servicing by Fiat/other dealers/garages.

I takes 15 minutes MAXIMUM to change the Croma's pollen filter. 5 to 10 minutes is what I would expect any competent technician to do it in.

It is criminal what some garages get up to.

Personally I check everything. Whilst under warranty I let them do the service then I thoroughly check. After warranty I do it all myself.

Needless to say after any garage has failed to do a proper job they never repeat that error when I next return.

As always with jobs like these it's a 5 to 10 minute job once you know what to do and with the filters permanently on sale at ECP I change mine every 6 to 9 months when I'm doing the air filter.

I don't have too many of the plastic screws left though :)
