So yeah, as the title says i hope its bot a gearbox issue cause that would cripple me financially atm. Anywho when im at motorway speeds (60 and above) when accelerating i get a constant knocking noise from the front left side, it dissapears when i let go of the accelerator, and its not present when depress the clutch and build up the revs, which im thankfull of as it means its not an engine problem! So whay could it be?

Best cv joint test I know is to reverse around a corner on full lock and listen for knocks.

Sounds like The box is goosed :(
"Bearing failure on the M32 gearbox is very common.
Typically you will notice a whining noise when cruising on the motorway in 6th gear. The whining will come and go as you press and release the accelerator. When the bearings wear even more, the gearstick will begin to move as you press/release the clutch in first gear.
My own experience indicates that just one bearing fails"

I dont have a 6speed gbox, still in a 1.4 8v so 5speed. No whines just this knock :/

Just to let any one know who may be interested. Found the problem. Its the passenger side steering rod. Not the steering arm end, or track rod end but the actual rod that goes between the steering arm end and the main steering rack. As im off work sick at the moment. My garage mate is going to attempt to rebuild the steering rack. I shall tell all how i get on :)
