How the f*** do u loosen the 35mm nut on the end of the driveshaft?? I've went through 3 wrenches so far and tried heating it up...any suggestions?

3/4" square drive T-bar and 6ft scaffold bar :)

Get someone to sit in the car and hold the brake on.

Re: Re: Please help!!!

Cheers. Have only got a 1/2" socket! Tried the scaffold pole hence why i broke three wrenches! Was at the fiat garage there, he says theres a "snake" on the end of the nut which u chap in?? Is this true? Did u have trouble getting urs off???

Re: Re: Re: Please help!!!

No probs at all getting mine off, but then I am.. well... bigger than most people.

You have to uncrimp the nut first, if you look at the end of the drive shaft there are 2 slots which the top of the nut has been bashed into. You have to lever these out.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Please help!!!

God if only i knew that b4 bigman! Well its a bit dark now so i'll give it a bash 2morrow, is it easy 2 lever the crimps out? cheers!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Please help!!!

Nope, I broke a screwdriver doing it. You really need a pin drift or the such and a big hammer.

You have to destroy the nut taking it off.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Please help!!!

1 last thing, do u have to remove the disc to chap these out? I'm dreading this already! Cheers!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Please help!!!

What exactly are you trying to do?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Please help!!!

Sorry should of said. Im trying 2 change the front wheel bearing. Fiat want £70 excluding parts!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Please help!!!

Um, not wishing to be rude but if you are having trouble getting the nut off, you are going to have alot more trouble later.

Have you got the new bearing and new nut?

I ended up machining some metal plates to help press the bearing into the hub, its not possible to do with a hammer. Ideally you need a hydralic press.

Whereabouts are you?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Please help!!!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Please help!!!

and ye i got the bearing and nut £30! I'm starting 2 think bout booking it in2 a garage now!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Please help!!!

Its not an easy job. You have to do alot of bashing as the bearing is usually rusted in.

If you were down south I'd lend you the tools I made.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Please help!!!

The prob is its all press fit. You have to take the hub off and get it in a vice, its not possible on the car.
