I have a 1.6 MultiWagon and I am having a few problems with it.

1, Every so often the who dash freezes during the checking procedure. The only way to restart it is drive for a while or leave it for say 4 hours. Everything else works fine as in light inicators ect but the dash board does not respond to any input and just freezes with the revs, speedo, fuel & temp where they are. I have had the machine on it while the dash froze and no warnings come on and it is still able to access all the information.

2, I changed the battery on Saturday at the advise of my mechanic. I am a bit skint at the moment so I put a middle of the range bosh one in. Cost about £55. Does it need to be a specialist battery? The guy just asked me what size engine and treid to sell me a cheaper one.

3, I have mentioned this before. Overrevving slightly but it is intermittent. It might happen 1 day out of 3. I can be driving along in 4th or 5th and if I accelarate hard it will jump up the RPM and then the car will catch it up. I have done all the clutch checks and that seems to be fine. Its not when I have just set off so it is not a warm clutch and weather does not make a difference.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. And could you try to be simple with your answers because I am not really that technical minded

Probably a poor connection at the connectors at rear of the gauges as it gets better as it warms up, you can remove the gauge panel, spray the connectors with electrical contact cleaner (only) dry and refit. It may be a dry joint (bad solder) in the gauges circuit board. Not so easy to track down

That will be fine for a 1.6

Clutch is slipping. Mine did that too from square one. You can live with it or if it gets worse or you get fed up with it then you have it changed -about £250 labour £100 parts

Thanks for that Mr Chair :)

I will have a go at the dash over the easter period. Will a silicone spray be adequete for the cleaning or does it have to be somthing specialist? I have had a quick look. Do I have to take the steering colum cover off to get behind to the clocks?

Ha! NO. You want to etch the contacts to bring them back like new and not lubricate them with grease. Electrical contact cleaner ONLY. About £5 but you will use it many, many times. Available Maplins or Halfords i would think.

Do a search for the gauge removal as it's been a while since i removed mine but it's fairly easy. Always disconnect battery first

Will do. Think I may put it in to mechanics for it doing. Otherwise I am liabel to kill myself or make the problem worse.
