hi when driving today i noticed my speaker was playing up, it goes quiet on the left hand side (not compeltely dead)
and then goes distorted for a while then goes back to normal.

its not the door speaker or the tweeter. i have checked behidn the radio and all seems fien there.

however what else coudl it be, how could i get to the wiring, its very tight space there

check the black connector between the door and the car they are prone to getting damp.

Just check if its doing it on both the cd player and the radio

If its just the cd player it could be the lead in the side of the multi changer working loose ...I had this problem with mine and just neds pushing back in every few hundred miles/ once a week or something

WILL CHECK BOTH, I THINK IT CAN BE THE DOOR PART, STRANGE THING IS ITS ONE SIDE OF THE CAR, THE LEFT SIDE..

ok it also the radio.

ill check the black connector, is this easy to open? do you mean thje rubber thing in between the door and the panel?

thanks for your help.

could be the radio, wiring or the speaker. pull out the radio and give it a few taps with a screwdriver handle at the bottom of the casing. if the speaker crackles or dies there are probably dry joints on the amplifier chip in the radio - easily fixed. The door wiring is also a likely trouble spot - between the door and the A pillar. open the door and move the wires around and see if it happens again - the wires are in a corrugated rubber tube. lastly try replacing the speaker anyway - get one from a scrappy..
