I'd go back to Fiat with the 9 pages of codes and ask them why they didn't pick it up. If they have charged you for diagnostics, I think they owe you some cash.

Hi - I've got a 1.6 Sporting on an N reg. I've had similar problems to the ones described in this topic for about two years. Garages - both Fiat and friends - cannot find anything wrong with the car but it's hell to drive sometimes. For months it will be OK - then suddenly after a few miles of driving you can start to slow down at say a roundabout when the car stops, the fuel injector light comes on and it won't start. I then keep trying and eventually it starts but it's a real pain. It only ever does this when the car is slowing down. Does anyone think this is simliar to the lamda or egr problems in this topic?

hi i am new to the forum, my punto sporting had the same noise and it also stopped when the clutch was pressed..........thrust bearing.
it only cost me £80 to replace along with a new clutch plate including fitting at home.

Also, one of my mates has got a punto 60s. When the cars just left to idle is has a loud rattle/ticking noise coming from either the engine or clutch, but if he just pushes the clutch down it disapears compleatly. Any ideas on what it is??

Shag - The problem on Gails 1.6 will have been the EGR valve, this won't affect you as you don't have one

Ricky - you only get thrust bearings in turbos.

EVIL a long time ago before it was common for cars to have turbos, the clutch release bearing was called a thrust race bearing:)
