Mot tester has agreed to pass if I cover the switch, still doesn’t solve the issue of the button not working

Fingers xed you are happy to have had good advice regarding getting an mot test pass for no extra cost.

Did the button ever work?????

Have you spoken to dealer about looking at it under warranty as good will because it wasn't picked up as a fault during warranty period?

Can’t say if it ever worked, vehicle is usually with one of my drivers. Only just got it back to sell it as it’s 3 years old now.
Dealer not interested in helping in any way whatsoever

You probably don't have access, but one of the MultiECUscan tests is specifically for the ASR button LED.

That is a shame about dealer..... pretty short sighted of them as you could be ready to buy a new van!

A very long shot but free....following the correct procedure (including not having keys anywhere near ignition switch)

Leave it disconnected for an hour - reconnect.

Otherwise either pay an expert to look at it or sell it as it is.

Sorry to see all the hassle you’ve been having here, are you able to pull the button out of the van, the button itself is likely to be a momentary switch and so it’s pretty easy to test, with a multimeter.

Two possible outcomes to this,
you test the button, it’s faulty, you buy a new button.

You test the button and it’s fine you sell the van as you’d intended, and don’t say anything about it ever again… the reason being is if the button isn’t faulty but doesn’t work then you have an issue in a likely very expensive module somewhere.

I may have been inclined to play the “I was thinking of buying a new van but I have this fault with the one I have” card as said above they may have been more inclined to help if they were to get a new van sale out of it.
