or..... how about a quick tidy up and donate it to a good cause like cancer research UK (race for life)?

I don't know how serious the £150 pledged is but I'm seriously thinking this is a great idea!

The plan I'm proposing is buy it, put it on Gavin's stand at the NEC, advertise that donations are wanted to properly restore the car, car is then auctioned off at the NEC 2013 classic car show, proceeds go to cancer research uk.

With proper promotions this could raise a lot more than would be needed to restore it, excess also going to cancer research uk. I will ensure that the cost of the restoration is less than the final sale price. It can be taken to car shows throughout next summer to raise even more money, on a trailer if not finished. Classic car magazines could also be approached to publicise the project.

Also, we are going past Exmouth this weekend so could easily collect it.

Gavin, is this do-able from your point of view? Oh, and would you be treasurer if this gets off the ground ;). Barbara can do it if you're unable to, I just thought it would be better if someone independent of me looked after the donations.

Thoughts please everyone..........

Just spoke to John the owner, hi John , and it's still available.

Someone wants to view it tomorrow though so we need to decide this is a go-er this evening so that I can ask John to secure it for us.

Ive hijacked a site for tonight and uploaded a few more pics of the rather pink Panda
Panda - the Pink one.

Pictures wont be up forever though !

Sorry I cant put the price lower, even though its for a good cause if Vernon succeeds in the quest.

I showed it at one of the local shows this year and I was surprised at the number of people that actually stopped and took more than a casual glance at it - and I even had a few actually stop and talk in a positive way as well.

Ive tentatively held the car until tomorrow morning for you good fine chaps, just in case you manage to go forward with your plans. All the best

Jon

Hi Vernon & everyone,

Only just seen these latest posts - usually floating around on the forum until much later, except last night - typical!

bad news, good news, bad news time - don't shoot the messenger :(

Bad news 1 is that there isn't room for a 5th Panda on the stand - I will check the plan but it's unlikely and more unlikely the NEC will let me change the numbers at this stage.

Good news is that I am more than happy to have it on the stand, but it will probably mean only Barbara's 4x4 goes with it, Vernon.

Bad news 2 - the NEC stuff arrived yesterday (what a co-incidence) and it states "The following are the approved charities for the 2012 show. You may have collections on your stand for these charities only. Please do not collect for any other charities at the show. Children in Need, Help the Heroes."

How set in stone is the chosen charity? I'm always up for bending rules where possible but sticking a pink Panda on a stand (which is actually next to the organiser's office!! ) and flouting their charity statement is a bit obvious even for me!

How about choosing a joint charity for the proceeds including one of their 2 chosen for this year? I don't see them complaining if either Children in Need or Help the Heroes is included.

Thoughts?

If this goes ahead in any form, I'd also suggest http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/how-it-works/

We could actually raise funds by purchasing items we do anyway - I'm not going to tell you how much the local cricket club has raised from my Ebay purchases (for example), but it's worth doing if we all get involved!!!

For an auction, maybe consider CarFest South next year assuming Chris is doing it again. That would work really well with Children in Need - hint hint We could also try to get invited to put 7 Panda's on display - even more of a hint ;)

Yes I'd be happy to be involved. Not sure if there's any way of doing what we wanted and allowing folk to gift aid the donations - I'm thinking not, as the donations aren't going directly to the charity(ies) - maybe someone could check this at a later stage though.

Enough rambling - back to the floor.......... (y)

some very good points there. maybe this should go forum wide and not just the panda section (if it hasnt already)

I think, if we go ahead, we need to secure the car fast and have somewhere to store it.
Even if it does not make it to the stand at NEC (short notice, lack of space etc.), I still think we should get it.
The are a few ways to raise money with a pink car, and they are guaranteed to get some interest from public. I am sure it would be successful.
Lets get a paypal address sorted out, and get the money in!

Thanks Gavin, very helpful (y)

Yes I was thinking it could be one of my two on the stand, will probably attract for attention than anything else I could bring anyway.

I've asked John to put a SOLD label on it and will call him later to finalise payment and collection details. We can initially buy, collect, and store it so no panic on your donations until we've sorted a fund account

Thanks Guys, it looks like 'Thunderbirds are go!' now who wants to be lady Penelope ? :p

Would be good to get it on the stand - can we organise a vote on the charity side? I think Children in Need is a really good one to consider - it will be very high profile with you know what story in the press (it's an ill wind etc), and will enable us to display & collect at the NEC this year.

Also I'm sure CarFest auction would be the ideal place to sell it, and maybe get Chris involved personally - I'm willing to give it a go anyway, and can be very persistent!

I don't want to be Lady P - can I be Clouseau please - I know that's Pink Panther but I can't stop the "here it is the Pink Panda" theme going round my head........... :p
