Children in need gets my vote, a Pink Panda doesn't really evoke armed forces for me. ;)

Oh I don't know........ Joke! ;)

Yes know what you mean though.

Should we split proceeds or just have one charity?

More opinions please.

I can try to get some press info to the NEC if we definitely decide on this. I don't know if it's too late, but the press officer asked me again last week - didn't have anything much to give them at that stage though!

I don't think it ever was connected to a charity was it? The first time I heard that is in the advert from the chap selling it!

It was launched with the Sky as a special edition iirc - any "pink" related charity stuff is much more recent - unless anyone knows differently.

That doesn't mean it shouldn't be linked to a charity & I'm happy for 50/50. Might limit the chance of getting Children in Need behind it, would be my only concern - I can genuinely see Chris Evans getting behind it, or I wouldn't have suggested it.

I think a pink Panda stands for anything you want it to - it's bright & for a good cause is all most people need to know.

Bearing that in mind, what do people think?

Edit: Race for Life started in 1994 so could not have been connected with the Panda Pink, at the time - sorry folks!

I'm happy for half to go to children in need.
I feel that pink is so associated with Pink ribbon cancer charities it would be fitting for the other half to go there.

as an aside wouldn't a camouflaged 4x4 be just the thing for help the heroes? If only we could find a cheap one somewhere we could do both!

I got a spare one I'm happy to donate, but I'm now fully booked till June.....

2015!

Someone else is welcome to take it on though.

Seriously, I think we should focus on one at a time, we'll just be splitting the publicity otherwise. ;)

It was meant as a jokey aside Vernon, I was referring to Gavin's sisley :p

You have your hands full enough I think ;)

I'd be up for helping out on the donation front :)

Could go for help the heroes, get it camouflaged drive around the UK to get donations, attend car shows - see if we could get any big ones(Goodwood?). Maybe ask Motor museums to display the car (Brooklands, Haynes, Beaulieu etc) to get more donations.

Then flog the car at the end of it. I'd be happy to take a week out to drive it around next summer :)

I'm sure our rufty rufty soldiers would be very impressed.

This restoration is already fulfilling a number of objectives.

1. A rare Panda is saved and preserved.

2. In the process we hope to raise some money for charity.

3. An opportunity to raise the awareness of the Forum and show that forums in general can be of benefit to everyone and not just give a bunch of geeks something to do of an evening (morning, afternoon, lunch break :p ).

4. An opportunity to raise the awareness of the classic Panda in a positive way.

I think this is more than enough to ask of this little Panda. Other ideas that spawn from this are more than welcome, and I'm not rubbishing the camo Panda idea, I just think that if the idea wants to be persued it should be a separate project.

I'd really like to start doing some publicity stuff for the NEC if this is going ahead - it will obviously have to go in as being under the Fiat Forum & Fiat Motor Club banners (don't panic it will say it came from an idea here! It's going to have to involve FMC if we use the NEC stand, and like it or not, the more traditional Club holds more sway in the more conservative reaches of the press) - I'll get something into the FMC magazine as well, though half the people on this thread are involved in both anyway!

As I was in contact with someone senior at Fiat HQ on another Club matter yesterday I asked her if they wanted to get involved - silence is golden at present, but you never know.

I will need a decision on the charity or charities though, as nothing can be done without this.

I think we have agreed that Children in Need is involved, yes?

I don't think we have a decision on whether it's better to align completely behind that charity, or if people want to split it?

Hope I'm not jumping the gun, but I'm happy to contact various classic magazine editors & contacts - through my other hat I am in contact with several of them already - that doesn't mean anything will happen but at least they know who is bugging them!

If someone could come up with a giant, toy Panda with an eye-patch, we might be on to something...! :D

Otherwise, it would be good to keep some link -- although I don't really know how... -- with some sort of cancer charity: because of the 'pinkness'.

Thanks to all those willing to take this on, and for promising donations. I actually think this could be something rather special... -- and won't do anything FIAT-related any harm at all.... (y)

Waaayyyyy ahead of you!! I already have inflatable helium Panda's ready for the NEC. The idea was to attach them to each Panda but no reason they can't be "adapted" to have an eye patch if someone's creative - don't look at me though, I'll end up popping the things if you let me loose on them!! (y)

Edit: and hey presto - they arrived today (flat obviously or they would have stuck in the letterbox  ) and are quite big - about 26" I think so will be quite obvious floating around
