Hi Every one from NZ
2017 Fiat Ducato Rollerteam when we removed the gearbox drain plug and the pin was sitting on top
Does anyone know what it could be and where it is from?? we thought it mayhave been from the top of the selector housing but that one is still there, gear box is out of the van as the clutch has broken all the plastic bits in the clutch
cheers for the help everyone

It's tiny isn't it.. M3..?
Is it a mashed up bolt..
Or definitely a threaded pin..?

The serrations.. And what LOOKS Like a blob of Loctite on the end

Probably pressed into a hole, as a stop

Obviously 101 options.. And your Auto clutch failure means something COULD have been stressed beyond normal use

This is a Semi-Auto..?

I am rather diffident in adding this contribution, as I do not wish to point in the wrong direction. The information that I have relates to the 5 speed MLGU box fitted to to my x244 2.8jtd, so not wholly applicable. However there is a small screw in that box, and I am wondering if it could have been replaced by a pin in later boxes? Not sure of diameter but quite small. See item 18 on attached diagram,

Hey ya
thanks again
no loctite yes it is a comfortmatic, yeah we were wondering if it was a stop pin but then wondered how that could come out probably best we strip the box down :(
cheers

Hey there
Thanks for that but pretty sure that bolt would be quite a bit bigger this is only like a M3 in size
cheers

Hi

That pin looks like it is supposed to be a friction fit somewhere, so it's either worked loose or it's a "spare" one that found its way in during production. Shouldn't happen of course, but you never know. It may have caused some damage before settling, and may cause mis-operation if it's not there to do its job. It looks far too light to be involved in transmitting power, but could be part of the selector mechanism.

Not long ago I had the misfortune of having my Ducato gearbox lock up into second gear due to a small "bent wire" spring in the 1/2 synchro hub breaking and coming adrift. A good proportion of the (depressingly high) repair cost was the many hours labour to remove and refit the box. As you already have the box out, I strongly recommend getting it stripped down and checked by a specialist. The alternative is to put it all back, change the oil a couple of times and drive around wondering if and when it might fail.

As far as I know, the M40 box is no different on the inside to the manual version, the "Comfortmatic" parts are effectively an external add-on.
