btw wen i say i clocked 108mph it wer about 110 on the speedo dial and 108mph on my satnav so which is the true speed, 110mph or 108mph i guessing 108 as satnav is more accurate innnit

Its only a 1.2 8v, i know from owning one you can get the speedo to read upto about 110mph.
Figures stated for 1.2 8v
0-62 = 13.8
Top speed = 96
BHP = 60
My 2b 16v struggles at 115mph
0-62 = 11.0
Top speed = 107
BHP = 80
107 give or take 10% is 90.7~117mph. So if you take into account the over reading speedo thats about right. So although it looks like I'm doing 115 mph, in truth its probably only about 105mph.
Your top speed is quoted at 96. 96 give or take the 10% for over reading speedo is 86.4~105.6mph
So a speedo reading 105~108 is about right, in reality its more like 100mph.
You can get more than the quoted top speed in the right conditions, drag, tail wind. light car with only 1 person and a near empty tank...etc but the manufacturers data is more accurate than people think.
and as a side note, this speed was done on private roads and track days.............

To the OP, basically if you want to mod your mk2 and make it look good dont do anything Brin has done apart from lower it.

Its not the filter it self that reduces power its the placement of it. If you use Brins as an example you can see its right on top of the engine sucking in all the hot air even with his " Cold air feeds"
Exactly, and the majority come with crappy leaky pipes that are positioned either a) in warm places, or b) behind something so there is no air feed anyway.
Thats why GSR kits cost so much. They are tailor made for each model of car for correct placement, they do actually see a (slight) increase.
The only other option I would look at are K&N direct replacement panel filters, they are supposed to be slightly better than standard so either leave your airbox on or buy a GSR (unless your flush enough for a BMC filter)

Oh FFS if you really want thrills, buy a bike and they have only one number plate so 1/2 the chance of getting caught. Snag is they do 0-100 in - erm not much...
