Petrol wiffs

I have had my W reg HLX 1.6 for just over a year and I am noticing a wiff of petrol. This usually happens well into the journey. I have checked over for obvious leaks but I can't see anything.
Any suggestions? Should I bother getting this looked at as I am scared the garages will try and fob me off with some rubbish that I need a new fuel pump or something being I am a woman!
