Petrol problem

The country I live in quit selling E95 petrol by the beginning of this year, and replaced it with E10 petrol which contains 10 % etanol. The problem is that Fiat say my 1.6 Marea would not accept the new E10 petrol. So have I to buy the more expensive E98 which contains 5 % etanol, or the +99 Shell petrol which is totally alcohol free. Now I have to pay 5 to 10 cents per litre extra for slowening global climate warming.

How is it in the UK? Are your MPs as stupid as ours in this farce?

There is another point of view: why the hell waste etanol in petrol if you can drink it and have fun..?

I would think that you could get away with a rough 50/50 mix of the new E10 and Shell Optimax, (fill-up with one tankfull/part of tankfull of Shell, the next time using the E10)

Not an expert, so best check with FIAT and other car forums in your country to see what happens to others who try it first...

The country is Finland which is the first country within the EU, I believe, that stopped selling the 95E grade. It is estimated that about 70 % of all cars can use the new petrol, but many people would like to be sure and buy the 98E grade.

The problem is that etanol may soften rubber parts. Because the energy value of etanol is lower than of petrol, fuel comsumption is a bit larger with 95E.
