General petrol smell

another common problem is fuel filter, if you havent changed it or know if its been changed in last couple of years have a look, its located behind the rear wing-drivers side-just in fromt of wheel, they rot and leak easily

if you've checked all the above solutions and to no avail, replace the lambda sensor. your car could be overfuelling.

I got a 1.2 mkII
got it as i was learning and took a studip massive break whilst learning and left it sitting for a month and a bit
often got the smell of petrol and was told it was some of the sparkplugs, another symptom would be misfiring, where the car judders a little bit when sitting in neutral or whatever

btw this is my first-post and im not too great at cars but i thought it was relevant

i often think i can smell petrol in my car too, mines a 98 60 s. looked allover cant find nothing, no leak anyway. im pretty baffled, done a full service on the car since getting it 4 weeks ago, changed fuel filter and the pipes are on well (i.e. no leaks or drips of fuel) car is parked in the exact same spot every night and never had any marks on the road.

Any leak in the crankcase breather pipe system will cause petrol smell in cabin when blower set to outside air. Can be split, slack, disconnected, broken or missing hoses. AFAIK the 8v fire its a single moulded peice with 3 ends. (rocker cover to air filter.)
