I'm currently in the process of buying a personalised plate to put on the Punto which will obviously replace the one that is on the car at the moment. I'm just wondering what will happen when I come to sell the car as I would remove the personalised plate.

Is a new plate automatically given to me/the car?
Are there any fees required to put it on the car before selling it?

Cheers. That'll be the £80 transfer fee right?

£80 if transferred directly to another vehicle, or add £25 if you want it placed on retention. Its £25 a year there after to keep it on retention until you reassign it to another vehicle.

As mentioned above you'll likely have the original plate reassigned, so keep the number plates, but this isn't guaranteed.

when I sold my last car and the car before that they both got their original number plate back.

generally to transfer you fill in a form hand over £80 and you're good to go

Same, only sold one car I've put a plate onto and then taken it off of it.

The Classic Panda with the NI plate dad and I took a liking to (original from first registration) just got reissued with a normal UK H-reg plate.

Another thing to note is that any plate reassigned to a vehicle which is having a plate transferred will always have stipulated on the V5C 'Plate none Transferable' or something along those lines. So that plate will then die with that vehicle when it becomes de-registered (scrapped basically) and cannot then be transferred onto another vehicle, although next owner can reassign a plate of their choice to it if they wish.

I think I've really complicated something thats quite simple with my explanation above
