performance question from newbie

Ive just become the proud owner of a 1999 1.8hlx.With apologies if this has been asked before, Im looking to improve the overall performance of my car,any(keep em clean)suggestions or help wouldd be appreciated or experiences with chipping to pass on,

Can't help you with the question but welcome to the site. Have a look in the modding guide - there may be something there. If not hold out and someone may have some ideas. tbh though, exhaust, filter and that's about it unless you want to spend £££££s.

as above, the cams that a member is selling are the brand new super-torque profile, so they are better than any out there aready.

HOWEVER (there always seems to be one of those when i post in threads like this)
To get as much as maybe 150bhp from your 1.8 would require the cams, dastek, several hours of Rolling Road tuning, BMC CDA airbox and a supersprint manifold in all likelihood.
That lot wont come in for less than about £2k. For that amount you could buy a Bravo HGT which already HAS 150bhp, and you would still have the 1.8 to sell.
OR, buy a mint FIAT coupe 20vt for the 2k plus your bravo's asking price.(another £1200 into the kitty)
