Old ECU and ST chip

I have recently changed the ecu and keys on my Mk1 punto sporting 'S' reg (I have lost my only key). I have noticed a considerable power loss since I replaced the ECU. I have opened the old ECU and found that the chip has been changed to a ST chip (M27C512-12B3). Could this be the reason for the performance and can I just install the chip into the replacement ECU?

you will be able to 'swap' the chips round fine, be very careful tho, those pins are very delicate.

Thanks for the help, i am going to try it out over the weekend.

Any idea on how to seal the ECU after its been opened, i am thinking of appling silicon to the cover before closing it.

yup that'll do it.

BUT i know on the 8v engines ecu, the imobilser code is stored in that chip - so you may be back to square one when you swap the chip over

the code is not stored in the chip on the 16vs
