Hi guys,

As Multi 1.9JTD is now 5 years old I thought I might start servicing myself to save a few pounds as money is very tight at the moment.

Looking back at previous services the garage seem to have flushed the engine during the change.

Do you guys recommend this even if a decent oil has been used or just completely drain oil when warm/hot and change filter? I am a bit worried about home much of the flushing agent stays in the engine even when drained and hence may negate the value of putting an expensive oil in!

A search suggests that some even put diesel or automatic transmission fluid in for a short period before changing as a 'homebrew' flush but admittedly this was on bullet-proof old Merc diesels!

Cheers
Mark

If it was mine id flush it depending on mileage, older engines can become slack and the deposits can help them well keep em quieter but if its been flushed from new id carry on, buy some really cheap oil drop the existing when hot put the cheap stuff in for a week then change the oil with the decent stuff and change the filter.
