...if you have a MK2 then please read on. Does not apply to MK1 owners.

After replacing the dome shaped bulb in the ceiling light, when activating the alarm on your car, does the light fade out? As the MK2 has a delayed courtest light which dims off and on. Wondered if the same feature happens with LEDs as it does with bulbs.

Cheers.

Joske

Correct me if Im wrong, but the dim feature dont even work on the dash when LEDs are put in. So I think they wont do it it he ceiling light too.

And Joske only GT/HLX models bravos have the ceiling light dimm relay - the lover models dont

I thought all MK2s had the dimming feature. Learn something new everyday. Also some LED dome bulbs have voltage regulators, so maybe they will work. Anyone with some experience of them?

Joske

You can't dim LEDs the same way you can dim normal bulbs. They dim a tiny bit then go off.

They won't have a voltage regulator in them as they are just designed for just 12v. Even if they did they would still dim slightly then switch off.

Cheers Tom, wont bother then as i like this feature.

sorry, leds won't dim. they will work from maybe 6 to 12 volts but always stay at the same output. another thing with leds, they will only work the correct way round. ie + to+

Sorry and no offence to Big AL but that is Bulls**t!!

You can LED's to fade in and out, not as easy as a bulb but can be done.

I have used 36 Leds and they fade in and out quite nicley.

Get a LED, 1k resistor and a 12v variable power supply. Start at 12v and work down to 0v. It will stay lit for a long time on the scale then will start to dim, where as a bulb will start to dim from 12v the led may start to dim at 5v and below.

@Joske, if I get a chance I will try and send you a video of mine with the digital camara.

Give you an idea but remember I did my interior light myself and are not premanufatured. I bought some of them before I made mine and because of the dimmer, they stayed on but was very dim. The resistor they had used wasn't quite big enough to dim them completly.

Yes got your e-mail mate thanks anyway.

Just got to nip out but will do it when I get back.

Once done if you could post on here to sjow im not lying would be brill too.

Don't expect it to be like a bulb, but will still fade in/out.

LEDs don't fade, they go a bit dimmer and then go out :)

Did anyone see Daz's dash illumination?

You have mail joske :)

LED can be faded just like a bulb proving the voltage drop is slow enough.

Attach a capacitor to one and charge it up then you will see what I mean. It will reduce in light till very dim and just a dull dot then go off.

Yes, LEDs can dim very nicely- I have Xenium chip on my xbox and an LED board came with it and it does allsorts of dimming and changing colour. Just have to work out how its done.
I recently fitted some xenon white 9 LED bulbs for each of the 3 interior bulbs - much better than the standard bulbs. My friend has 18 LED ones in his astra but they look way too bright - its like being in a hospital. The ones I got do have voltage regulators so they don't fluctuate when you start the engine and stuff. Don't know if they can dim because I have an 80sx which doesn't do that.
I'd like them to come on when I unlock the doors with the remote central locking.

While we are talking about the interior lights in the front - what is the T shaped tool thing that is attached above the light for?

Also, my glove box has no light in it? Why did they get rid of that and the panel in the glove box? I had to remove the glove box to fit the rcl module.
