PAS problem

Hi to everyone.New to Forums, infact novice to all of this.I am in despe. ration. Have a problem with my Punto 1.2 W reg. Power steering has failed. City button comes on green, but there's a red warning light and no PAS. Garage (in the back woods) now tell me that Fiat say its the sensor, and at a cost of £500 to supply but the have a waiting list. Can anyone offer any advice or alternate supplier. Car is a necessity where I live.
