I would offer my green one but I've mentioned ho much I paid for her and she needs new sills and a respray (as soon as the 750's on the road I'm thinking of restoring my Fantasia properly).

Blood, sweat and I'm out of beer. :-(

A couple of fiddly jobs needed taking care of today.

Exhaust gasket and rubber hanger fitted. I won't bore you with the details but it involved taking the radiator out and swearing a bit.

Make a couple of brackets and drilled a couple of holes so I could fit the grille...

...and bonnet vent...

...to stop rain soaking the coil and carb's I've used an off cut of pollycarbonate...

...speaking of carb's my £4 air filters arrived today. :)

All in a pretty good day apart from a minor mishap whilst making one of the grille brackets.

A piece of metal I was drilling a hole in slipped out of the pliers and cut a lovely clean slice along my thumb. Took a while to stop the bleeding and as a general rule if it needs less than ten stitches I don't bother.

So back to the job(s) at hand.

Inlet manifold design phase.

bAdAb9cP.jpg

I have a couple of options. The top one is a basic pair of "Y" pieces welded to the base plate and the second is basically a pair of shaped funnels. The "Y" design allows better air and fuel transfer but the funnel design is like a twin SU manifold that uses the vacuum of the engine to divide the air/fuel flow. Could this cause turbulence within the manifold and condensation of fuel vapor contributing to the possibility the engine could flood?

Anyway a pair of carb' mounting brackets are on their way (actually cost £1 more than the carb's but they were a bargain. I think I'll go with the "Y" design or a variation of it at least.

How about a funnel design with a couple of flaps to divide the air/fuel flow more efficiently?

Any thoughts on the topic or advice will be great. :)

Just to show my addition of a centre box to the exhaust was not for my neighbors benefit I had another use for the pipe...

...you'd think I planned that. :)

Anyway; today's plans are scuppered and I'm stuck for things to do. To humid and windy to paint the inside of the car blue, I don't fancy getting filler dust in my open thumb so the bodywork can wait. I can't do the manifold because Optima haven't got back to me with the base plate as yet, PayPal is doing everything by e-cheque because of the Nat West situation and I've been called into work tomorrow because my former colleague was caught asleep on duty. :bang:

Finally received word from Optima Stainless Steel. £60 for a the base plate to be made from 5mm mild Steel.

I guess that's the going rate but it's more than I can afford this week.

The base plate not arriving could well be a blessing is disguise because the carb' mounts arrived today. :)

If you're wondering why one looks a lot cleaner than the other I was bored watching tv and polished the inside of one with some wet and dry paper.

I'll do the other one during night shift. ;)

Also the pipe I ordered arrived as well.

As you can see it's the perfect size for the carb' mounts and the inlet side. So it should be a straight forward "Y" piece made out of the pipe, base plate and two plates for the carb' mounts.

So having thought about it. I think two plates would be easier. The engine side plate based on the gasket and a single carb' plate a bit like this...

...I'll need to put the carb's in their mounts made a template based on that to ensure the correct size. I'll have to do it at work as my photocopier won't work with the lid open. ;)

Fantasia

The eBay Italia test item was marked as dispatched Saturday and...

...arrived today! :)

Fitting took about three minutes and as soon as I heard a Smash Robot clearing its throat I knew I had Radio One at least.

See what I mean about the Porsche green? It's closer to what the Fantasia has faded to than the original colour.

I've finished polishing the first port and done the other one as well.

I know this is will be good for at least an extra 0.0003 bhp. ;)

I'll use the two vacuum inlets to advance the distributor to begin with and possibly use both in inject a fuel and gas mixture into the engine later.

Just waiting for the last of the office bods to sod off so I can photocopy the carb's for the inlet base plate. ;)

Too shiny for the photocopier.

Sod it. I've made a template the old fashioned way. Pencil, paper and a craft knife.

By using a single plate as well as making it easier to fabricate the rest of the manifold I now have somewhere to mount the mixture adjustment screw. ;)
