General Panda tank - MPG?

I've not really done a calculation of my MPG on my Panda fire engine but how many MPG does everyone get out of a full tank? & What is the tank size?

Mine normally does 42-45 mpg (999cc 4x4), or about 250-280 miles from full to reading empty (theres still about 1 1/2 gallons left when it reads 0 though...)

2wd pandas have a bigger tank, I think its 8.8 gallons rather than 7.7 for the 4x4, and should probably get near to 50 mpg on a run.

About 300 miles a tank (320 pushing it). The MPG on all our Pandas ranges from 42-48 MPG depending upon the journey.

I know the tank on the Selecta is bigger than the 750L and 1000CL, but the others arn't Injection's so I don't know if its the same size as all later Injection Panda's.

That's pretty good, though the petrol tank / display on the Panda can be a bit dodgy because sometimes I've filled it to the top and it shows less, then I drive off and it fills up, then drops again suddenly So going to have to keep a closer eye on the fuel gauge!

Just to clarify 4x4 tank is 35lt, 2wd tank is 30lt.

According to the handbook that came with the Selecta 'Panda 1000 & 1100 = 38 litre tank (reserve 5.0-7.5) Panda 4x4 = 32 litre tank (reserve 5.5-6.5).

This book dosent have a date on it but its different to the one with the F-reg 750L. This came with the July 1993 (registered) Selecta which is the newest of the 3 Panda's we've got, but the booklet with the 750L says 30Litres for 2x4 Panda's.

As far as the gauges go, the ones on the 750L and 1000CL are really good and tell you exactly whats in the tank, One on the Selecta has same problem as listed above, when Filled up to full, will only show 3/4 until driven and then goes upto 4/4 and starts to drop after about 40-50 miles, where as on the 750L and 1000Cl, when full, will read over the 4/4 mark, and won't normally move until upto about 80 miles is covered!

With all our Panda's the tanks can be low enough to read 0/4 on the dial but still run (not that this is common or advisable practise) just incase anyone wondered.

When I've bothered to work out the fuel consumption on mine, it hasn't been overly impressive, 36 - 38 MPG seems to be normal. It doesn't go far, though - normally only within a 5 mile radius of home. It would probably be better if I took it a bit further afield!

However, on an annual mileage of some 2000 a year, fuel consumption really isn't much of an issue, even with the prices we're lumbered with in this country

It just shows how round town driving does your MPG in, I get better MPG at 85mph on the motorway than driving round town! and high speed isn't suppost to be good for MPG!

OMG how goods that, Got best every on last fill-up! 42 MPG! So did you get 500 miles out of a tank full aswell or did you have to fill up?

It is possible to get very high consumption figures at a steady 50/55mph, we used to do economy runs in Clubcento a few years back and the winner always managed 65 plus to the gallon. I doubt if the carb engines would manage... I very rarely get more than 45mpg, have managed high 40s on ocassion.

When I used to borrow my brothers black Mk1 i the 80's I would get 60 on the run between Chelmsford and Colchester. My first Mk1 did 45, my second 35. All driven the same style. Nobody could get more than 35 out of it until a mini backbox was fitted and it went up to 45mpg.

Driving style makes a big difference too, with the black Mk1 I got 60mpg, my mum 50mpg and my brother never bettered 35mpg.

I agree it is compleatly down to driving styles in the main. I do dual carrageway and town driving and think 38mpg for an auto isn't to bad. Works out at about 12-13pence per mile.

I seems to find that the MPG works out better on my chart if I fill up when the tank is practically empty, but I do drive economically at the end of a tank in fear of running out if I raz the car lol.

I got 62mpg out of my FIRE 999cc Uno once and got 400 miles to a tank. I was deliberately driving carefully and did about 340 miles of motorway work, cruising around 60 - 65 mph and the rest driving in town. Normally I'd be hammering along at 80mph :devil:

Mandapanda gives 100 miles per 1/4 on the fuel gague.(About 50 mpg per division on gague ).

The best run we had in our Selecta was London to Coventry, via Rugby and back to London on about £22 of Super+. Didn't hang about either and used all the numbers on the speedo at times

It wasn't quite 500 miles to be honest, a little bit less, but yes i managed the whole trip with a tankful.
The same car i got that 65mpg at 55mph, i also got 46mpg at a pretty much constant 80mph. Thats still pretty good i believe.
