Do you mean when you turn to crank there is no engine turning over you mean?

as ignition is just the pre-stage before engine starting, as it allows the car to ""wake up""

Ie dash lights, fuel pump, self test etc

Then you turn 1 more click, and engine should start

thanks fore the above but nothing, when you turn the ignition key there is nothing, had the RAC out to have a look they seem to think it is either a broken wire to/from the ignition switch or the ignition switch itself, is changing the ignition switch a easy job ?

there is a contactor disc under the lock that actually does the electrical switching.. these CAN wear out..,
before all this though.. try unlocking the steering rake , and rock the wheel up + down a few times.. trying the key at the various stages.., there are LOTS of wires all packed into a small space.. not too unusual to have something "half-unplugged",

let us know how it goes,
Charlie

Hi
Finally got the ignition problem sorted out on my Panda, as this Panda has the semi-auto gearbox and you park it in gear, with no power to the ignition it wouldn't come out of gear, so it was hard to move, so I got in touch with two mobile mechanics one that said they specialised in auto electrict's to come out to look at the problem, both after having a look said they didn't want to touch it because it was a Fiat, so it was taken to my local Fiat Dealer who after a week fixed it and charged me £170.00 to do so, all it was was a broken feed wire to the ignition, so the car is now back on the road.

Hope nothing else will go wrong now as I have already replaced the timming belt/water pump and fitted a new battery.

Thanks for all the suggestion as to what the problem was.
