my car is running now on 220.000km. It is serviced always on time with same synthetic oil brand and filter. After 200.000km it started a huge oil loss. Nothing leaks, no smoke, no noise, no power loss, no temperature light on, but suddenly it looses almost 1lit oil every 1000km! My garage cannot find anything and the obd II check shows nothing. Any idea? What to check? THANKS IN ADVANCE
 
Mine is the same. It has had a ton of new parts, including high pressure pump, injectors, DPF, turbo to name but a few. Just like yours, it runs really well, starts perfectly, good fuel consumption, never smokes on startup or when running and has no leaks at all. At its worst, it can use 0.5 litre of oil in 200 miles, crazy.

Unfortunately, there are other threads on here and some anecdotal evidence on the internet that any time after 80-90,000 miles these engines suddenly start drinking oil. My personal theory is gummed up oil control rings allowing small amounts of oil to get into the combustion chamber and be burnt but the DPF is catching most of it, hence nothing showing out the rear. However, I think it is enough to explain the oil consumption. I think it is also why I had to change the DPF not long after I bought it.

Its not worth tearing the engine down to check this so I will drive it until either the DPF blocks again or the chain lets go….

I agree with you for the oil control rings, but garage wants to avoid opening the combustion chamber and replace the piston rings. Is it possible to unstuck the rings using engine flush or chemicals which claim to clean and lubricate rings, valves and rubbers? At least I haven't replaced a ton of new parts!

I couldn’t find any other evidence to back this up so decided not to bother. The reality is that if the control rings are coked or gummed up the only long term solution is to remove the pistons and clean or fit new rings.

I don't know if it is safe to use diesel instead of oil, or brake fluid, partially or completely to replace motor oil. The motor is already distressed, after 220.000km and I'm afraid to wear it down more. I finally believe it needs new rings set to fit
 
Anything you put in the cylinders in an attempt to free the rings should only be done to soak the rings and bores - don’t run the engine this way. If I tried this I would change the oil afterwards as a matter of course anyway…
you mean the engine flush, as an oil additive before an oil change. If you follow the instructions they guide you so. But is it effective?
 
No. All the research I did showed that others had tried various treatments but none struck me as being completely successful or a long term solution. I just live with the high oil consumption and don’t use the car for long trips. I have another Panda which does most of our day to day running so am not too worried.

I don’t believe there is a 100% solution that doesn’t involve stripping the engine down, something I don’t think is worth doing.
