Hi there,

It’s nearly time to change the oil on my wife’s TwinAir Panda as it’s newly done 10k since we had it. I’m pretty competent at servicing but I’ve not done anything this new or technical before. I know it’s the fancy oil I need (Selenia if I can get it), and reading around suggests the ECU needs to know it’s been changed. Do you need Fiat ecuscan software to do this? Thanks in advance!

Multiecuscan is the software you need to perform the reset. Before you do that, I suggest you have a good read of this thread:

Don't let it go for 10k next time... Just saying!

Ah thanks, great advice. Just seen you can get Selenia oil from shop4parts, 5l is enough isn’t it?

I am about to do mine. I am pretty sure its 2.9 litres 3.2 with the filter. S4P do a good price. I paid £45 for 4 litres. Your may need to bulk up the order but with plugs and filters delivery may be free. Having 4 Pandas to buy for I never worry about that as its always over £100.

you don't need the fancy oil. Generic cheap oil works fine! the key bit seems to be to keep changing it every 10k or so.

I've now done 11 oil and filter changes and close to 120k in my twinair, using whatever fully synth 5w40 I can get cheaply at the time!

I have never had MES until this week so have never done the ECU reset on it...

I’ve changed the oil last Saturday, and also the header tank as I noticed the top connector was bleeding coolant a bit. I’m sure it’s running smoother now, although that’s probably psychological!

You prompted me to change mine this week. Used all the "proper" stuff from Shop4Parts. I too thought there was a noticeable (improved) smoothness about it afterwards but, like you say, I wanted to notice a change!

No, the oil gets a pounding in this engine. A lot of power through just two big ends and a turbo trying to burn it as well. Changing it is always noticable as better running and quieter.

I'll be changing the oil and oil filter etc in my wife's car around May, that'll be the second oil change, the car's only done about 8500 miles so after this oil change I'm hoping that MPG get's better as it's currently only about 37 MPG.

I've read on here that after 10,000 the mileage definitely improves.

It will get better. They are not economical though. 85 or 90HP doesnt come free and economy is in line with power output equivalents. I have now worked out how to extract 60mpg from mine, but thqt does not come easy and wont happen on winter tyres. I dont try much and get c45 on lots of short journeys and a few long ones. TA does about 53mpg without effort on a 250 mile run. Im at 26000 miles

I’m at 16K miles and routinely get 50mpg across a tankful of E5. That’s a mix of driving, mainly taking it easy on A-roads. 60 is achievable on a long flat run but as TPN observes, it doesn’t come easy. 37 suggests you’re enjoying it, which is no bad thing! It will improve when you’re north of 10K.

Look at my GUIDES

I've not reset ANYTHING on my TA's, they got FIAT spec servicing for a while, and reset with Examiner

But since these places closed I have changed oil myself ( couldn't buy the correct grades of Selenia back then)

My wife drives the car, it's her's actually, her milage is about 12-15miles a day for four days, she only works four days a week, and probably only about another 10 miles for the rest of the week so about 80 miles a week at most.

Very occasionally we'll do a long run but no more than about 300 miles maybe twice a year.
